Calogero Dean
When I was about 8 I was looking through some cassette tapes that my dad had. I don’t know if they were my dads or if one of my older brothers dubbed it. At any rate I was playing around, trying to see what was on them. I pressed play and I heard a bass line that was familiar but I didn’t readily recognize it. I continued listening and heard an orchestra of sounds from bongo's to brass to rhythm guitar. I kept listening and before long I heard a falsetto voice that almost brought me to tears. I listened to the rest or the tape in silence, mesmerized by what I was hearing. There was a feeling inside me that I couldn’t understand, all I knew was that I was too young to be feeling this way. This music was older than I was for goodness sake! It was a feeling that I had felt many times before while listening to my dads records. This was the first time I could actually verbalize what this feeling was. It was love. The song was “Pusherman" by Curtis Mayfield. And the reason the bass line was familiar was because of Ice-T's song of the same name. I’ve been in love with music since the day I was born. This was the first time that I realized it. Everything else in my life has been, in one way or another, dedicated to it.
My other loves: Movies, Music video and magazines.
